Located on the Mangawero river the roadside Raukawa falls, despite some recent landslide, which made them narrower and less spectacular, are still worht being visited.
We drove to the Whanganui Durie hill so as to admire the river, which is the longest navigable and third longest river in New Zealand. Some of us climbed the historic elevator so as to have panoramic views over the river and the bridge. I took photos of the Durie Memorial Tower (erected to the memory of members of the armed services who fell in the 1914-1918 war) instead.
We then made our way to the city centre where we had the opportunity to observe the co-existence of architecture from several different eras with 20th century modern architecture. There were some rather interesting examples.

I felt it was a pity not to have stayed a bit longer, particularly because it wasn't but in the last moment that I came across some rather exquisite glass blowing workshops.
