We decided to take a ferry to Devonport rather than Waiheke island on the morning f the second day in Auckland, based on the fact that the weather seemed to be fairly clouded as I looked out from the hotel premises.
The ten minute ride from the harbour was interesting particularly in regards to the ferry perspective. We could see the ferry building in the distance surrounded by huge skyscrappers and yet outstanding in its architecture and small size, when compared to them.
Upon reaching Devonport, named ater the Devonport naval base in England we came across distinct historical buildings and villas we instinctively fell in love with. Unique in their similar-like architectural features they provided us with an insight as to what Victorian times must have been like. We walked up Mount Victoria till we came across St. Francis De Sales and All Souls Neo-Gothic Catholic church, which we were able to visit, before heading back down to experience a bit of boutique shopping, which seemed rather distinct from Auckland's one. I couldn't resist buying some rather unique paua shell pieces of jewellery.
It started raining before we could explore some of the beaches. We then decided to take the earlier ferry back to Auckland, which is when I sighted some seagulls with their spotted tails.
