Upon finishing the Museum visit we decided to walk down whilst exploring the Parnell area. We took advantage of the light rain to seek refuge in the 1897 St. Mary's church regarded as one of the finest wooden Gothic buildings in the world. Its interior was being ornamented in preparation for a wedding ceremony, so we were not allowed in for too long.
As the rain intensified we sat a fairly interesting café having some chocolate cake and tea till we were able to move on.
The downtown area was very modern, despite incorporating some fairly old buildings. Under the spell of this almost magic architectural mixture we decided to travel further afield and head towards the Ponsonby area, which we reached by having taken a bus.
Predominantly an upper middle-class residential suburb with a number of exquisite boutiques, cafés and shopping establishments Ponsonby seemed too quiet when compared to other Auckland areas. We decided to have a French crèpe at a food court where the lively atmosphere influenced our state. We soon made it to our hotel and because of having walked all day opted to have an early vegan-like dinner just across the road.
