Auckland, New Zealand - Waiheke island - The 25th of February 2019 (morning)

We had decided to take a ferry with a local hop-on hop-off bus trip included to Waiheke island which wasn't too cheap expecting so as to discover what was considered one of the best destinations in the world to visit, as in accordance with the Lonely Planet 2016 assessment and maybe based on that fact alone I created some rather high expectations, which I must say were not met.

I cannot say I disliked it but I personally felt it was too touristic and not necessarily what I had envisaged. We came across some really nice beaches, which we didn't take advantage of because of not having swimwear with us.

Having got off at one of the stops we made our way down to a piece of innerland that seemed to lead nowhere after an hour walk, having had the chance to be driven back to a village close to Palm Beach by a local driver, who must have instinctively felt we were lost or a slightly off track.

From there we got back onto the bus and stopped at Onetangi, which I found to be maybe the most interesting place of the ones we visited on the island. We strolled along the beach for a while admiring the holiday villas on its coastline before having got the bus onto Oneroa and finally the ferry harbour.

Vineyards and wineries are said to be well known on the island but we ended up just passing by one of those.
