The 16 Day circuit around South Africa - Day 2 (cont.) - Middelburg Ndebele encounter; Pilgrim's Rest - The 28th of January 2020

(...)

A short enconter with a Ndebele group living not far from the Corn and Cob farm provided us with some information regarding their traditions, as well as their craft skills, some of which I had had the privilege of witnissing some years back in Lisbon. We were welcomed with fried worms, whose taste I found to be a bit salty, though not disagreable in flavour.

We then headed towards Pilgrim's Rest a picturesque village on the valley of the Eastern Escarpment founded by gold prospectors in 1873. We were lodged at a timber and tin type of hotel, whose bedrooms were an absolute charm. I wasn't feeling too well so I had to skip the village tour and lie down for the rest of the afternoon, not having had dinner. It wasn't but the following day as we made our way to the nextdoor restaurant to have breakfast that I had a look at the main street and the overall village atmosphere.
