The 16 Day circuit around South Africa - Day 12 (cont.) - The Cango Caves; Oudtshoorn; night at the Plume - The 7th of February 2020

(...)

We soon headed towards the Cango Caves for a guided visit. Taking photos was quite difficult once the light was only on for a few minutes as we strolled around Cango 1 chambers, the only one open to the public.  Some of the crystalized minerals forming stalactite and stalagmite dripstone formations resembling fluted columns and delicate and exquisite drapes were quite impressive, I must say.

Once we were out of the fascinating subterranean network of chambers we ventured along the main street of Oudtshoorn, whose magnificent sandstone mansions once pertained to the ostrich barons given the importance of the ostrich industry in the 1870 and 80's.

We ended the day's exploration at a sumptious guest House which I considered to be one of the best we had ever been to during the circuit. The bedroom's decoration was beautifully sober and so was the whole complex. Situated in a farm just off the Cango Caves the Plume provided everything any guest would want to satisfy his needs - magnificent  surrounding landscape,  "perfect" accommodation and extraordinary exquisite food.
