The 16 Day circuit around South Africa - Day 11 - On the way to Graaff Reinet: Nieu Bethesta; Graaff Reinet Dutch Reform Church; Lunch at the Coldstream restaurant - The 6th of February 2020

We were rather expectant because we would later be visiting the Valley of Desolation in the Karoo  National park area around Graaf Reinet and according to what I had read it would certainly be a great experience. The long drive had us stop at several locations, though not for too long.

Upon  reaching the valley of Nieu Bethesta, we realised that the Gat river was overflooded and we wouldn't be able to go across where we expected to see some of Helen Martins' exquisite statues so we continued towards Graaff Reinet to have lunch.

A brief stop led us to the inside of the Dutch Reformed Church, whose Victorian Gothic façade drew  people's attention. Said to have been completed in 1887 it was modelled on Britain's Salisbury Cathedral using two different types of local stone. Its outside was more impressive than the inside, or maybe it was simply because we were too tired and in need of some food, which we got just across the street from the Cathedral at the Coldstream restaurant.

The restaurant's decoration was second to none. Every little detail seemed to make a diffference even in the toilets' area. We had pizza accompanied by some wine and the quality of the food did match the quality of the restaurant's character.
