Most of the mnorning was spent on a game safari experience around what is proclaimed to be the oldest reserve in Africa. We came across several mamals we hadn't had the chance of seing in previous safari experiences, such as bufallos, bushpigs and the impressive African wild dogs. We were actually followed by a pack of these for a while till they stopped at a water pond. It was interesting to see them moving positions on the terrain as they ran after the safari car.
We then headed towards Siphosabadletshe, a very poor area with a high rate of HIV infected people, so as to visit a high school established in 1990 by members of the community with the help of the "Star for Life" programme, and which provides education for about 1,168 learners. We were guided through the various classrooms by one of the teachers. Not to interrupt the ongoing classes he gathered a few school girls who weren't attending any and had them sit in a vacant classroom with our group members.
Apart from having had a lesson on some important greeting words and expressions, we were allowed to pose them some questions and vice-versa. This whole enriching experience ended up with them singing the hymn of South Africa, which moved us all.
(To be continued)
