The Rajasthan circuit - Day 5 - Jaisalmer outskirts - The 19th of November 2012

(...)

After a short rest at our respective Hotels we drove a few kilometres in a desert type of landscape up to a particular location in the outskirts of Jaisalmer where  we got onto a camel safari which lasted for about half an hour.

The "conductor" of our camel (Carlo) was a vivacious seventeen year old young man (Nema), looking more like a fourteen year old boy, who managed to converse all the way in a rather broken English accent, which was never the less understandable.

We then reached an area of sand dunes stretching as far as the eye could see to watch a supposedely magic sunset ...

Hundreds were assembled  expectantly awaiting the sun set, as some local female singers and dancers performed some of their nomadic Music and dance for us.

We soon after rode back on "Carlo" which having been encouraged by Nema took to gallopping at almost full speed. We were lucky not to have fallen out, though I must confess it was a "challenging" experience.

The drive back to the hotel was accompanied by over excited songs and claps as the guide had a bottle of  a very strong local firewater pass along the aisle of the bus. The drink  seems to have had an almost immediate influence on those who drank it  ...

(To be continued)
