The Romania circuit - the morning of the the seventh day - Sinaia, Peles Castle - the 26th of May 2012

Having been told that Sinaia use to be a preserve of hermits and shepherds until King Carol I  had his Royal hunting preserve and summer retreat house built, which in turn led to a once almost exclusive aristocratic resort did in no way prepare us for what we were about to see.

As we reached Sinaia and were getting off the bus we set our eyes onto several villa like mansions, each of which seemed to impact us more than the previous one.

We walked a few metres in a fairly large park landscaped area until we sighted the tower of Peles castle, though still unaware of what  to expect ...

...  suddenly there stood the  neo-Renaissance and Gothic revival castle, which was built between  1873 and 1914 resembling a Bavarian Schloss outwardly.

Closed between 1975 and 1990 it would later, after the 1989 Revolution,  re-established as heritages site and handed back to the King in 2008, though to remain open to the public

We had to wait for about half an hour before our guided visit  which in turn gave us time to stroll around the interior courtyard and terraces.

(to be continued)
