The Romania circuit - the afternoon of the seventh day - the Sinaia Monastery - the 26th of May 2012

After having had lunch and because of the close proximity we walked up to the Sinaia Monastery, which had not been initially included in the circuit.

Founded by Prince Michai Cantacuzino in 1960, following a pilgrimage to Mount Sinai, the Monastery has two courtyards with two churches, the first we come across being the Great Church added in 1846 and the Old Church hidden through a passage way to the left.

The Great Church had a fine Brâncovenesc-style porch, which impressed us all.

Some of the interior paintings of the Old Church carried out by Parva Mutu were quite impressive, though I must confess not as impressive as those of the painted Monasteries of Bucovina.

Having to fit in interesting side visits in the already tight schedule can sometimes be too tiring though we all felt it was a good choice to have had this particular Monastery included, once we were in the area.

We were soon heading back to Bucharest, our first and last stop in this circuit and I believe it was only then that we started realising we would be flying back home the following day, which definitely didn't please any of us.
