The 16 Day circuit around South Africa - Day 16 - Signal Hill; The Company's garden; Saint George's Cathedral; lunch at the Waterfront - The 11th of February 2020

Our last day had arrived and with it a certain feeling of sadness. I was not going to let it affect my day though, so as we made it to the Sign Hill from which we could see Robben Island in the distance and as I watched a group of paragliders I thought of freedom and resilience.

Once we were down town we strolled along the at one time mainly vegetable producing space established by the Dutch East India Company which now comprises a rose garden, historic statues, an aviary, a fish pond, quite a few botanically and historically valuable trees and many Egyptian geese and squirrels.

Saint George's, the Anglican Cathedral stood not too far. A brief stop gave me an unexpected sense of inner peace before we walked into the Iziko Old Town Museum where we spent the rest of the morning exploring the 4 levels with a wide variety of permanent exhibitions, though it was the collection of whale casts and skeletons that mostly caught my attention.

We had lunch at the Waterfront and it wasn't as we were moving out that I saw someone peacefully sleeping on the ground right in the middle of the roaring traffic driving by. Was he homeless or just someone taking a nap due to the extreme heat one could feel then, I wondered!
