We headed towards Stellenbosch in the heart of the winelands and considered as the cradle of Afrikander culture, which is still noticeable in the architecture and the historic facades in its historic centre.
We started by walking into the Church where a mess was being held. We were handed some panphlets with the lyrics of the religious songs that would be sung. We sat there for almost half an hour and it was really relaxing. Once out we strolled around the various streets, whose main commerce was closed, which was a bit of a pity as there were some rather creative objects I might have liked to purchase.
We stopped at Oom Samie se Winkel, a charming restored Victorian shop we had been advised to go to. Its name stands for "Uncle Samie's store" and it is said to have been operating since 1904. We could find almost everything inside the narrow lanes the shop was organised in. Many of the objects, delicacies and other curios for sale were varied and interesting, so not being able to resist I ended up buying some.
The wine tasting visit was interesting despite the fact that I don' t drink any alchool and therefore am not into brands of wine. The presentation was very well done and this is the aspect I mostly liked. We had lunch brought to us in the grounds of the Wine farm under a tree, which was a rather unique experience.
