My 19 Day Iranian Azerbaijan circuit - From the Caspian rives to Tabriz and Takht-e Soleiman - Day 6 (morning cont.) On the way to Ardebil; Ardebil- Ruins of the Masjid Jameh Mosque; the Pol-e-Ebrahimabad bridge - The 14th of May 2017

(...)

We stopped somewhere on the way to Ardebil to have a "tea break" at a local Café upon which we were "attacked" by a number of young adolescents wanting to know where we were from. Having found out which my country of origin was and knowing by heart many of the football players from my country, particularly Cristiano Ronaldo, whom they absolutely adored led them to ask me to have a photograph taken with them.

When we reached Ardebil we headed towards the ruins of an old mosque dating back to the Saljougi period, despite having been repaired several times throughout the Eelkhani period and used during the Safavid one. It is said to have been a huge complex, of which only the present cubical building with its dome and portico remains. We gained brief access to a prayer hall within its premises, which despite being very small was richly decorated.

We had another brief stop by one of the several remaining Safavid bridges (the three arched Pol-e-Ebrahimabad bridge) to be seen in the centre part of the town in a sort of peaceful setting, that appealed to our senses.
