Three more children from Calheta have today been handed the birthday presents especially bought for them.
These children's reactions may have been different from the enthusiastic reactions western children have (and more so because of not being accustomed to getting any) but one thing is undeniable ... they were happy.
From what I know of two of them (who have already attended my workshops) the reactions were not too different from what I would have expected - Ivanilde Elena (Va) proudly put on her new dress though she was more interested in getting hold of the book she had been sent by me ... having started to put the stickers on it straight away ...
Diva on the other hand put on her new T-shirtand sat quietly surrounded by the presents she was sent by her "godmother" Lurdes ... read the card she sent ... and will most probably colour her book a bit every day ... for it to last longer ...
It is Eveline's reactions I had absolutely no idea of, as I haven't met the child yet ... but her surprise at seeing the presents and the happy expression whilst wearing the new dress and holding the presents Dora sent her ... speaks for itself ...
Diana Conceição who should have also got hers recently left Santiago island without having known someone had thought of her on such a special day ... , but I am sure the presents Maria João bought for her will be put to good use ... and will soon make someone else happy, as we decide whom we should give them to ...
Making these children happy ... makes me happy ... and I am sure the godmothers involved in this project do feel the same ...
