Calheta de São Miguel - the morning of the second day - The 22nd of April 2012

The preparations for the birthday party had long started in Lisbon when I began buying the decorations for the room where the party was going to be carried out, but because sometimes envisaging something and putting in practice what one has thought of is slightly different, we got up fairly early so as to start decorating the room.

Behind each chair there would be a bag (gently provided by one of the "godmothers" - Carla Cordeiro) which I filled in a decorated animal shaped or heart-shaped baloon, a bracelet for the girls), some sweets, chocolate lolli-pops,and a set of colouring pencils. The napkins, plates, glasses and clown hats lying on the table were different colours, so as to identify the younger and older children and also the gender.

Our protégées (Leinira, Diva, Maria de Jesus) together with Lola, Tarine and Lou came around to help us and soon Ana and Juliza who wouldn't be at the party showed up as well in case we needed some further help.

By  around nine Henriqueta had a hairdresser come to do her hair (African style) especially for the party, whilst we sent out the girls  to call in some of the children we had not been able to locate the previous day, although all of those who should be at the party had officially been invited.

Although some last minute arrangements had to be made regarding the table "organization", as the initial number of children (24) was changed to 28 due to unexpected events such as having realised it was Gerson's birthday, some of the smaller children had their siblings at the party and couldn't be left alone and  having exceptionally allowed Diva to come because of her "godmother" being here.

Despite this fact we were all particularly happy with the way the room looked after we finished decorating it.

Once the electricity was back on Henriqueta tried out the "ballroom floor" to the sound of the music our "improvised" DJ - Mr Meno had sellected.
