We stopped at a small village outside Christchurch to refresh ourselves when the unexpected news of the terrorist attack to the Christchurch Mosques were known. The guide had to equate whether we should drive into the city or expect the further development of the situation. There wasn't much we could do apart from waiting for the agency instructions but the truth is we all felt this was the worst possible scenario to finish what had been on of the nicest circuits ever.
We were eventually given the green light to drive into town and fortunate enough to have dinner at the restaurant next to the All Stars hostel, though prior to that we gathered at the guide's room to have a farewell toast, as most trip companions were leaving the next day with Didier, Edgar and I being the exception.
