New Zealand circuit - The Whakarewarewa geothermal area (cont.) - Day 1 - The 26th of February 2019

(...)

Soon after the Maori dance performance we visited the village having started by the cemetery and church, together with the Thermal Museum located within the village itself before we made our way to the surrounding areas, so as to observe the several springs and fumeroles, as well as the bathing pools and the Puarenga stream and the Lake Waikaukau, before we made it back to the residential area of the village.

I felt it was a pity we didn't have time to explore the weaving and carving Arts, but the village was soon to be closed for visitation. The overall experience was very rich though. The volcanic activity at Whakarewarewa was a reminder of how the earth is actually changing and how the pressure of the volcanic gases and heat below the surface can break through in spectacular (and yet dangerous ways).
