Auckland, New Zealand - Auckland War Memorial Museum - Natural History - Origins. A selection of artifacts (private collection) - First Floor Galleries - The 23rd of February 2019 (morning)

The natural history galleries tracing New Zealand's ancient origins from the lost continent of Gondwana were rather impressive. I couldn't help noticing the various species of kiwis, which are naturally New Zealand's national pride, as well as the skeletons of extinct animals and a section dedicated to the various bird species.

We made it quickly through the children's discovery centre, which was filled with children accompanied by their parents (both of which seemed to be enjoying themselves)  before we came across some kirbati art, whose artistry is passed onto the younger generations.

Our attention was unexpectedly drawn to a small gallery showcasing Japanese artifacts and a selection of Netsuke dating from the Edo period (1603-1868), together with some rather interesting pieces from the 18th century England and ceramics, all of of which pertaining to a private collection being exhibited.

Before leaving we decided to stroll around the Museum shop where we acquired some equally interesting objects.
