Soon after finishing the Wai-O-Tapu geo thermal park we drove to the Huka falls, whose flow of water is said to be able to fill an olympic swimming pool in just 11 seconds. The truth is the strong pressure with which the water forced its way into the 15 metre narrow gorge was quite impressive. The reason being the fact that it flows from the 100 metre width of the Waikato river bursting out with that great force. The colour of the water was also impressive.
We then stopped at the Taupo town by the lake, bearing the same name, to have our picnic lunch and spend some time strolling around the area which comprised a few beaches with a wide variety of water sports and river related activities, as well as a few merino shops. The sun was particularly strong though I only realised its effects late in the afternoon.
