New Zealand circuit - On the way to the South island - The Cook strait - Picton first impressions - Day 6 - The 3rd of March 2019 (afternoon)

We got on a ferry that would take us to the South island, more precisely Picton on the upper reaches of Queen Charlotte Sound. I had no idea the Interislander ferries were so big though I should have envisaged that once they transport cars as well. The actual boarding was smooth but despite the huge existing space for passengers most of the places were soon taken. I managed to get a place by the side windows so as to admire the landscape.

Nestled between the sea and the hills Picton's first impression was very positive as we walked from the harbour to the hotel along the coast.

The Gateway Motel where we would be lodged for the next two days was a complex of several studio units with kitchenette and bathroom incorporated around some rather interesting grass covered areas. We would be sharing the studio with a couple from our travelling group.

After having dropped the luggage we headed to the city so as to get a look at its palm tree lined park, unique cafés and varied shops.

It was Didier's birthday so the group got together to celebrate it in a rather unconventional way, as we celebrated it twice during the day. He seemed touched judging from the pictures.
