The 16 Day circuit around South Africa - Day 4 - Kruger park safari; lunch at the Hippo Hollow in Hazyview - The 30th of January 2020

Most of the morning was spent on a guided safari  experience in the Kruger National Park. I had no idea the park was so vast and  there was such a huge network of surfaced roads. It comprises sixteen distinct vegetation zones which range from open grass to dense forest andsupports a huge count of species. We felt lucky to have had the chance of watching several mamals and a few birds. We barely felt the need to use field glasses as many of those were at a fairly close distance, the lion and lioness being the exception.  There were elephants almost everywhere  and I'd say they were the ones who made their presence noticeable all the way through this rewarding experience, which ended up not being that surprising taking into account the fact that a quarter of Kruger's total biomass is comprised of the park's 13,000 elephants.

We stopped at the Hippo Hollow restaurant, located in a country estate bearing the same name to have lunch and as we sat on the restaurant terrace overlooking part of the Sabie river and having a magnificent meal I wondered what else might we still be granted to make our day complete ... because as far as I was concerned there would be nothing more satisfying than what we had experienced so farduring the morning.
