We had decided to visit some open markets during the last morning,as well as take a boat ride along the canals, but we were unfortunate with the weather, as it was raining heavily when we left the hotel, so we just managed to go around one closed food market fairly close to the area we were living in, followed by a walk towards the Inderhavn to soon realised it would be impossible to take the anticipated boat ride.
We then walked back to the Gammel Strand under heavy rain where we came across a photo exhibition on the old harbour market.
As it no longer was possible to be outside we went towards Oksnehallen, Halmtorvet to see Steve McCurry's photo exhibition, to soon find out there were quite a few other exhibitions on different themes.
If some of the photos were self explanatory, like those in the series of "Workers" by Maria Fonfara, "Chinese in Zambia" by Thomas Lekfeldt or even "At the edge of the sea" by Jonathan Bjerg Möller, the oens pertaining to "Mahgreb malaise - Youth unemployment in Algiers" needed an extra explanation so as to be fully understood.
"Rooftop" - Unemployed Ahmed Bejhadj and his pregnant wife Farisha having nowhere to live have found their sleeping lodgings on the roof of his mother's building in central Algiers.
"The Square" - During a heavy pour a group of educated people increasingly disillusioned, frustrated and resentful about the state of their Nation gather in a Square in Algiers.
"Praying" - This group of men still hold onto Islam and pray everyday that God has not forgotten them at the Port of Algiers.
