As we walked out of the Sand Sculpture exhibition I took two photographs by the " Denmark go! Go! Go! Go!" advertisement posters, though by then Denmark was no longer a threat for the Portuguese team still in for the European football title.
Soon after having photographed the striking façade of Opera House by the harbour from Ofelia beach we turned right and headed towards Nyhaven lined with colourful houses, bars and restaurants. It reminded me of some of the Amsterdam canals area though I found it a lot livelier, I should say.
According to what we read this long canal was dug by soldiers between 1671 and 1673 with the aim of enabling ships to deliver merchandise into the centre of the city and that particular area once notorious for its rather "seedy pubs and brothels".
Some of the Nyhaven houses are said to be more than 300 years old ... some bearing witness of their age through the signalling date of their construction and of the four houses Hans Christian Andersen is said to have lived in we managed to locate two, not that we couldn't have located the others ... but by now we were beginning to feel really tired.
We did enjoy the stroll but prior to heading into Stroget still had time to sit and relax for a while in a small square watching some street performers who not being particularly good still managed to entertain us ...
