The 7 day circuit in Panama - Day 4 (afternoon) - Lake Gatun - Lunch and boat ride; Titan floating crane; Pedro Miguel locks - The 25th of April 2018

We had lunch at a hotel overlooking the Lake Gatun which not only provided an amazing view over the lake but also  provided us with a magnificent buffet lunch we had all been looking forward to as the forest hike had had a bearing on our increased appetite.

I couldn't help photographing a caiman, whose protruding eyes in the water we could identify  as I was having lunch, such was its closeness.

Soon after lunch we sailed around some of the Gatun lake islets  looking for different species of mammals, amongst which several monkeys, that as soon as we got closer fearlessly jumped onto the boat. We ended up observing a typical Panamanian owl and a green iguana as well.

One of the most amazing experiences as we sailed the lake was the fact that we often approached huge size boats and thus got an entirely different perspective of the sailing in the area. We were "introduced" to Titan, which is among the largest floating cranes in the world. Saidd to have been built by Hitler's Germany it entered service in Panama in 1999.

Our afternoon visit ended with a brief look at the Pedro Miguel locks operational procedures with its single flight chamber.
