My 19 day Iranian Azerbaijan circuit- From The Caspian rives to Tabriz and Takht-e Soleiman - Day 2 (late morning) - Teheran - Feeling the overall atmosphere; Strolling around the Tajirish food market; lunch at a local restaurant - The 10th of May 2017

Because we happened to visit Iran during the election period we instinctively tried to feel the overall atmosphere, despite not talking to people directly. Candidate placards were spread all over the city, as well as some candidate sections we were to later come across though everyone seemed calm and contented, as far as I could feel.

Markets do provide visitors with unique insights into the country and what I mostly like to do, apart from strolling around them and looking at the various exquisite goods on display, is feeling the air ... actually smelling the mixed scents  as if by just inhaling them I'd get closer to the "heart" of the country and those who inhabit it. The Tajirish food market was the ideal place to stroll around before we headed to a local restaurant to have our first local meal, because it did enhance our appetite.

Despite feeling tired and not in the mood to eat much I ended up  eating quite a lot, in readiness for the next cultural adventure of the day.
