The sweetness of Southern India circuit (Day 8 morning cont.) - The Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Puducherry - The 18th of February 2015

As we were driving by the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Sagar suggested we briefly visited it. Seen from afar the 100 year old Basilica looked astounding and a lot more the moment we got closer. I don't exactly know if it were the colours or the mixed  architectural style that most appealed to me but  there was "something" more than the simple fact that I enjoy walking into churches ...

Said to be a perfect example of the Oriental version of Gothic architecture its interior has 28 glass painted panels depicting Saints encircled by terracotta crafted motif frames typical of South Indian architecture.

The original ensemble has been expanded, so we were told, to include a Parish Hall, an Adoration chapel and even a grotto to Our Lady of Lourdes in the outside courtyard.

We all felt it had been worth it, despite being such a short visit...
