The 8 day cultural trip to Iran - "Iranian treasures" - (Day 4 afternoon cont.) - Isfahan, Masjed-e Jâme (cont.) - Courtyard and Southern and Western Ayvans - The 19th of September 2014

We then walked into a patio-like (Southern Ayvan) directly connected to the courtyard and said to have been skillfully annexed to the Nezam al-Molk during the Seljuq dynasty.

On either side of the dome chamber entrance one could see marble merhabs with inscriptions. During the late 9th century the entire surface was covered with enamel and embossed tiles, with the two towering minarets believed to date back to that epoch as well.

We strolled around the courtyard so as to better admire the whole ensemble, which we would otherwise not be able to have an overall perspective of.

Built during the Seljuq dynasty the Western Ayvan, whose interior and exterior were decorated with tile works and muqarnas by order of Shah Sultan Hosein Safavid is not as impressive as the previous visited Ayvan.
