Diary of an emotional tript to Calheta de São Miguel (the afternoon of Day 2 - cont.) The 12th of February 2012.

(...)

Because throughout those one day and a half Telma and Conceição improvised a few games and story telling with the children, as they finished their "artistic" works, they often gathered outside  in what was transformed into a sort of stage.

Some of the children decided to put on a performance of a play I had staged with them one year ago during one of the workshops, this being the reason why many ran out with their presents without having been photographed, to be on time for the "show" - The "african" adaptation of "Carochinha".

Eunice de Jesus holding a bag full of birthday presents sent by her "godmother" Henriqueta.

Eunice de Jesus asked to be photographed with every present she got including a denim skirt she  was sent by her former "godfather" (Carlos Saboga).

She was further granted another surprise (talking to her "godmother" Henriqueta on the phone, which left both of them emotional and almost speechless.

Part of the audience awaiting the theatrical play (in which Lola and Eveline Natalina can be seen holding their presents).

The play is said to have pleased everyone, including the actors, some of which (Pedrilson and a substitute actor) came over on purpose.

The girls didn't leave without taking some presents for their mothers and although there weren't enough Carnival masks for everyone (the last to be distributed had to be randomly handed out) nobody seems to have been saddened by that fact.

The girls who wer "entitled" to Carnival masks (Eveline can be seen on the right hand side holding the book her "godmother" sent her).

Note:
Pedrilson and Justina were given their presents, although none of them has been taken any photo.

As the "godmothers" were heading to the Pension with the remaining material, which was not used they were surprised by having been "intercepted" by a bunch of girsl, who wanted to hand the out a few presents for their "godmothers" back in Portugal and France. Most of those presents were local products - coconut and flour biscuits, corn (milho cuchido), "linguiça", a cockrel (who couldn't unfortunately travel back with them) and some panos.
