Diary of an emotional trip to Calheta de São Miguel (the evening of Day 2) - The 12th of February 2012

Part of the evening was spent packing their bags and paying back visits to some local people, amongst which was my friend Benedita, whom they had to hand the ADEC Academy key to and a souvenir, as well as some presents for her grandson Danilo

The next stop was at Nha Francisca's, where Nelsinha used to live, though they had been told earlier that she would come over with her father (which she did) to get the present sent by her "godmother" Susana and meet them.

The Mayor of Calheta, José Duarte went around to hand them out some local writers' books and then kindly drove them around the village showing them the latest developing structures.

Prior to driving back to Praia they still had to go through the experience of an electricity cut out, which I had so often spoken of, but which they were fortunate enough not to have experienced during their short stay in Calheta.

Just before heading off two of the girls came over to the Pension for a last "farewell" moment with their "godmothers", capured in these emotional pictures.

Note: The presents which were not handed out to Odete and Ariane's daughters were left behind with trustworthy people who would later see to having them given to them.
