As we were making our way towards the city centre we made a detour and ended up around the Ulrichsgasse where we managed to see some of the Medieval City fortifications - the Ulrepforte and the City Wall before getting onto a tram. Not having used the tickets adequately almost got us into trouble. We were lucky to have been in the hands of a rather understanding tram inspector otherwise we would have had to pay one hundred and twenty Euros fine.
Koblenz was our day's destination and the truth is we loved it the moment we got off at the main train station. There was an interesting fountain just across the road in which the grape picking was illustrated, I believe because of Koblenz being the Mosel and Rhein vineyard area or maybe not, I honestly don't know. There was a reference which caught my attention "Mein shönes Fräulein darf ich wagen, meinen Arm und Geleit Ihr anzutraggen" that made me revise my long gone German language knowledge but which nevertheless didn't add anything to as to what it really was.
Some metres further along on the left side of one of the main streets we came across another rather interesting fountain, which is referred to as the Noah's Arch despite being the Erfinderbrunnen by Gernot Rumpf, who may have in fact used the Noah's arch image as a model due to the number of animals carved on it boat-like centre
We soon found ourselves at the Vier Türme, an ensemble of buildings at the crossing of Am Plan, Löhrstrasse, Altengrabe and Markstrasse, which was quite impressive, as far as the corner buildings are concerned.
By the time we reached the Marktplatz we werealready in love with its still visible Medieval touch and the number of statues and little charming corners.
