I got up fairly early on Saturday and headed to the Plaza Mayor just around the corner from where I was staying, so as to have breakfast in one of the outdoor Cafés under its arcades.
Formerly used for festivals, bullfights and even public executions Plaza Mayor with its Panaderia fresco-covered façade is definitely one of the nicest squares in Madrid. As I sat having my morning meal I watched the arrival of several groups of Japanese tourists as the morning bustle took over the previously calm square.
