"Never let fear and stupid pride make you lose someone who's precious to you."
"No matter how honestly you open up to someone there are still things you cannot reveal."
An apparent simple story on a journey into the past so as to understand the reason behind a decision that was taken and never understood by the main character who in turn was directly affected by it.
Journeys into the past are most of the time necessary to resolve some feelings of incompleteness therewith associated despite the fact that not everything may be completely resolved.
Murakami's books are not so much of what he writes but the way his writing always gets hold of me as a reader as if I was put on a spell. This book feels like a puzzle or riddle -like story or maybe as Meg Wolitzer says "a haiku full of beauty, strangeness, and colour."
