Figueira da Foz, Cova - The 6th and 7th of June 2015

As children my mother used to take us almost exclusively to the main beach in Figueira da Foz and never to any of the many isolated beaches along the shores of Mondego,  located  fairly close by, which had always been in our imagination as territories of freedom and mystery.

Maybe justifiably so, as we reached adolescence my brother and I ventured in some of those riding our bicycles to merely find out that imagination does effectively distort reality. Those beaches were rather frightening with their roaring waves against the kilometric stretches of sand where one could see no one.

They became quite popular in the seventies particularly among foreign surfers, but it hasn't been but in the latest years that their popularity has finally reached the city dwellers looking for space that can no longer be found in the beaches around Buarcos.

My brother, my daughter and I  made one of those our place of election over the weekend ... and with a slightly different approach to the one of the past "surfed" through the multiple stories that made up our adolescence as we lied on it observing the waves from a distance.
