The 6 day trip to Ireland - Galway (Day 3 - afternoon cont.) city centre - The 12th of June 2014

(...)

We took advantage of the free time we had to walk up and down the lively city centre Shop street lined with colourful pubs, a varied number of different shops and a few old buildings which seemed to fit in the overall modern-like atmosphere despite being old.

The Lynch castle, said to be the finest medieval Town house in Ireland did catch my attention but I didn't manage to get the photograph of its full façade because of the direction of the sun.

By walking up we reached the Eyre park on the right, which by then was filled with people just lying about and enjoying the beautiful sunny day.

Once we walked down the Shop street we reached the Corrib river mouth, which opened up right in front of us and at the far end of a grassy patch we noticed the Spanish Arch, which is said to have been partly destroyed by the tsunami generated by the 1755 Lisbon earthquake.

We sat down for a while enjoying some take away meal we had bought whilst admiring the view until it was time to make our way back along the river to where the bus was stopped.

AS we were driving out of Galway I looked out from the bus and still managed to photograph an angler fishing the traditional way. It was quite a sight, I must admit.

It was a fairly long day ... a full day, in fact, but certainly a day to remember ...
