As we left the Scottish Art Gallery we headed towards George's street to look for a restaurant Stuart had advised us to go to, despite being Spanish. The "mound" area was particularly beautiful ... even under the rain.
Walking into "Andaluz" was like getting into one of those local restaurants Spaniards are so proud of. The decoration was typically Spanish with its mosaic tiles, its "moor" influenced furniture and above all the smell of Mediterranean food that filled in the air.
We ordered traditional Spanish food accompanied by a jar of red wine "sangria". We didn't resist having some dessert as well and by the time we left we had made up our minds to spend the rest of the afternoon shopping rather than going back to the Art Gallery as we had envisaged earlier.
We walked in and out of several shops on George, Rose and Princes's streets having spent some time in almost every shop along those streets. We ended up buying some books and some clothing, though I was surprised with not having bought a kilt myself.
Rain kept on falling quite heavily most of the time interspersed with a few spells of good weather that lasted for just a couple of minutes. By six it was almost pitch dark we decided therefore to head back to the hotel, so as to have dinner at the Thai restaurant underneath it, re-organise our back packs and get on the last bus heading to the airport, once we were leaving fairly early the following morning.
We strongly believe we'll go back some other time, eventually over Spring or Summer, once we were heavily punished by the bad weather. Notwithstanding that fact we did enjoy what we had access to in such a tight "schedule", with Stuart Usher's walk having clearly been the highlight of the whole experience.
