Painting the light in Italy being exhibited as part of the collection brought from Museo del Prado in Madrid didn't look as grandiose as the other groups in display at Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga despite being indisputably masterpieces in their own right.
Landscape with Mercedarian nun - ca. 1636/1639 by Claude Gellée (1600-1682).
Landscape with Roman ruins and shepherds - ca. 1622/1623 by Cornelis van Poelenburgh (1594-1667)
Landscape with St. Benedict of Nursia - 1634/1639 by Herman van Swanevelt (1603-1639).
The bath of Diana - ca. 1624 by Cornelis van Poelenburgh.
Rest in the inn - ca. 1655/1658 by Philips Wouwerman (1619-1668).
Hunting and fishermen (detail) - ca. 1660/1662 by Philips Wouwerman.
What I felt as being of major importance was the precious information provided next to each painting allowing the visitors to get a thorough explanation as to the various informative details of the scenario setting and some of the characters in them.
Some guided tours were available but it was almost impossible to have access to them once they had to be booked in advance. The exhibition will be held until the end of March and I feel I might still be able to see it again, at least one more time.
