Edinburgh, the first impressions - The 23rd of January 2014 (evening)

As we got into Edinburgh airport it was quite dark despite being just about five in the evening, this having been one of the reasons as to why I would rather have travelled there either during the Spring or Summer period.

We got onto a bus that took us straight into Waverley station in down town Edinburgh  just beside Princes' street from where we walked east in the direction of our hotel that stood beside Calton Hill. We could barely hold the map in our frozen hands. It was particularly cold and windy and it looked as if it could get worse at any moment.

Hotel Twenty felt like paradise because of its cosiness but its initial  welcoming warmth was short-lived as after having dropped our backpacks we felt we should get back into town, so as to locate the precise place we would be leaving from to the Highlands on an excursion tour the following morning, not having the slightest idea o how long it would take us to walk there.

The area we would be "living" in for the next two days seemed very culturally active but we knew well in advance that our tight schedule might not allow us any "eventful" nights out.

In order to reach the Royal Mile we had to venture into some rather narrow and poorly illuminated streets in the low town, which were beyond no doubt surrounded in mystery ...

Back onto Prince's street we headed towards the hotel which provided Thai food and that was our choice for the evening, not having wanted to search for any other place in the cold and then rainy evening.

We really appreciated the meal which was delicious, particularly the prawn and coconut milk soup.  We went to bed fairly early as our next day tour would also be starting early and the truth is besides the inconvenient weather Mia and I were overjoyed and excited to be in Scotland, the first impressions having been of welcoming kindness on the part of all those we came across, from the bus driver to the talkative Hotel manager.
