Calheta de São Miguel, Cape Verde - the morning of the 16th of September (still)

(...)

Soon after having reached the little fishing port I decided to call at Erica's to hand out the money to her mother, having had the possibility of filming her and her aunt in a heartfelt message to Noëlle. As we crossed the main road to start heading up towards the pension we met Rivia, whom we had not seen the day before, when we filmed her grandmother.

Just prior to turning onto the pension road we came across Delmizia and her mother. We not only photographed them but also ended up filming her mother "talking" to Charlotte, after having been handed out the money for the school.

Delmizia followed us up to the pension so as to collect the birthday presents sent by Charlotte. I took a few photographs of the sequence of reactions as she opened the parcel to finally see what was inside it.

Gerson showed up at the pension to ask about his "godmother", (who actually forgot about him), but was surprised to find out that irrespective of that he would be handed out money for the school that I provided myself and because Marie Hélène had grown fond of him and those who had participated in the theatrical piece, when she was around the year before, she had also brought him a school bag and a special game he was immensely grateful for.

Jessica Patricia was handed a two piece outfit bought by me on Jorge's behalf, once she had not been given any new birthday dress  last April, when she was invited to participate in the birthday party organised for 24 children. She later came back with her mother to be handed out the money for the school and they were both filmed "thanking" Jorge for what he provided them both with.

Several  children's mothers or older siblings showed up to collect the money for the school  and simultaneously ask about the "godmothers". I had to once more face the quite "unacceptable" situation of having to "lie", not to have the children hurt for not having been thought of by their "godparents", that having been the case of Wilson, whose "godmother" also forgot about him. He was provided the necessary money by João de Barros, though one could feel he was disappointed and sad.Ivanilda , Elcy and Eunice, as well as Neuza's mothers were handed out the money sent by the children's  "godmothers (Paula, Luis and Katia, Lurdes and I and Margarida respectively).
