The Romania circuit - the afternoon of the third day - T argu Mures - the 22nd of May 2012

Still one of the great Magyar cities of Transylvania, although the Magyar influence has been recently diluted by the Gipsy and Romanian immigration, Targu Mures stood there with its fine Secession-style edifices, namely the Prefecture (whose entrance Hall we managed to photograph)  and the Palace of Culture which judging from its façade, richly ornamented with bronze bas-reliefs, carved balconies and a mosaic must be effectively impressive.

We walked along the Piata Trandafirilor admiring its outstanding buildings and trying to feel the atmosphere of the city in which despite having been a long-standing garrison city took immense pride in its intellectual tradition and where according to what we were told Hungarian is still spoken as much as Romanian.

We finally reached its northern end where the Neo-Byzantine Orthodox Church imposed itself.
