I simply can't help looking at Kabongo's paintings ... the vibrant colours and the intensity of the strokes of paint are intoxicating ...
I am surprised the recognition of his artistic skills as a painter has not gone beyond the Angolan territory ...
Why it is so, or rather is not so ... is something I can't quite understand ...
Could it be that the "outsiders" in Angola don't apreciate Art ... or could it be that they do apreciate it but don't buy it ... or don' take it out of the country ...?

Hi
ReplyDeleteI often travel to Angola, and I cant help but agree with the you about the intensity and vibrancy of Kabongos paintings...
Meeting him outside small restaurants and looking through his amazing collection is an experience unique to Luanda.
I have contacted http://www.artsumo.com/ in order to try get some of his paintings to the wider world. Your blog is the only place on the web that I could find pictures of them. Thank you for sharing this. My email is gerald(at)adnotes.co.za maybe we can help get his paintings to the world.
We have a few Kabongo paintings from our time living in Luanda, we are now back in the UK and they do not suit our decor and we are wondering what to do with them
ReplyDeleteI can buy them from you if you like.
DeleteI realize your post is over 4 years old but if you know anyone interested in purchasing Kabongo paintings from the 80’s please contact me @
