Aveiro - The Cathedral and the local cemetery - The 18th of September 2016

(...)

As Misi and I approached the Cathedral of Aveiro we came across the following sentence written on a wall - Deus morreu (God is dead). The Church was filled with worshippers nonetheless and we had to wait for quite a while till those attending a morning mess left, so we could briefly visit its interior. Founded in 1423 as a Domenican Convent the Cathedral, also known as São Domingos Church is said to have been subject to a major renovation process in the 16th and 17th centuries.

Some of the religious artefacts, as well as glaze tile panels caught my attention both at the entrance hall, altarpiece and side chapels.

We decided to have a look at the cemetery located close by and there again several things cautght our attention, namely regarding the decoration and shape of the doors of some burial plots but especially the following sentence above one of those "Aqui jaz um velho infeliz" (here lies an unhappy old man).
