I can't help saying how impressed I was with the façade of the Graslin Theatre and Opera House.
Fairly close to it stood Katorza's radically different façade, but what was interesting was the role both artistic spaces have been playing in the social life of Nantes. Katorza is said to have been open in 1920 due to the initiative of Salomon Ketorza, who until then had moved from town to town in a rather innovative approach to sharing cinema with others. Katorza now has 6 huge cinema screens and mostly presents to its public original foreign movies with French subtitles, in what has been recognized as an artistic selection of the best film production.
I once more missed another exhibition, this time "Le souffle du pinceau" being held at the Espace Cosmopolis located behind the Theatre Graslin. "Tan pis" as the French would say ... but the truth is I was rather upset and above all because of having been gullible enough to believe it would be open on Sunday.
On my way to Dobrée Museum I deviated onto Rue Kléber where according to the guide book of Nantes a tile-covered façade was worth looking at. I was disappointed for the first time once the "supposed" tiles weren't but very tiny demonstrations of this kind of artistry and barely covered a few centimetres of the façade.
