The "Jordanian approaches circuit" - Day 4 (cont.)

The "Jordanian approaches circuit" - (Still) the morning of day 4

The Outer Siq- Petra
The 25th of January 2011

The Outer Siq is lined with tombs, some of which have ornamental designs which have clearly originated in Assyria and been re-adapted by the Nabateans. The Tomb of 17 graves is not far from the Treasury as we walk down from the Wadi-al-Jarra soon to lead us to the Street of Facades, which is an agglomeration of dozens of facades carved not only side by side but also at different levels.

A few metres ahead sat Petra's Theatre dating back to the first century AD, which used to accomodate around 8500 people.

I have been impressed all morning ... and the fact that we still have the whole afternoon to "explore" the entire area has added an unknown flavour to this day ...

As we approached the area of the Cafés amid the liveliness of the bedouine children repeatedly crying out  " 14 cards  ... one dinar", we were  further immersed in a completely different atmosphere ... one of sights and sounds unheard  of and seen so far ... policemen  in their camouflage overcoats riding their horses ...  Jordanians in typical outfits just sitting around ...  laughing ... talking ... and drinking  tea  ...

We shall be having a look at the local Museum prior to having lunch ...
We need the break ...
We need to just be able to "digest" all of this ... it is too much "beauty" to absorb in such a  short period of time ...
